Academics Overview

We offer an academically challenging K-8 program.  At Christian Academy, we set high expectations for all students, and provide an Honors curriculum for advanced learners.  CAP test scores significantly out-perform the national average on the TerraNova Achievement Tests, a nationally-standardized test.  For the past five years, school-wide average scores have ranked in the top 25 to 30 percent of students tested nationwide.  We view teaching as a ministry- not just a job- and are dedicated to helping all students reach their full potential.

In addition, all students take art, music, PE, Spanish, and computer classes, which are important components of a comprehensive education.  Worship team, student government, and yearbook electives are also offered for students in grades 7 and 8.

Our Upper Elementary and Mid-High students are also provided many opportunities to participate in learning and serving outside of school.  This includes science trips to Catalina Island, Spiritual Emphasis retreats, mission trips, community service trips, and other academic field trips.

CAP is accredited through the Association of Christian Schools International (ASCI).  Accreditation, a national benchmark of quality, is a voluntary process involving validation by peer review and a systematic self-evaluation against nationally accepted standards.

Elementary Academics (Grades K-4)

We offer an academically challenging program, while also providing a well-rounded education, including art, music, PE and computer classes. Upper Elementary/Mid-High Academics (Grades 5-8)

Overview

Our 5th-8th grade program provides an academically challenging program, while also providing a supportive environment for students as they transition between elementary school and high school. Students are encouraged to grow in their walk with Christ and the knowledge of His grace.  Our curriculum, dedicated teachers, weekly chapel, and community service projects provide a place of spiritual shelter as well as a place of intellectual challenge.

Students attend homeroom, Bible class and specials/elective classes with their own grade level.  Students rotate to different classrooms and teachers for each academic subject – Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Science.  This allows each teacher to focus on their particular area of expertise, and also allows students the opportunity to take classes a year ahead of their social grade level.

By the end of 8th grade, all of our students have completed an advanced academic program which significantly exceeds Arizona standards, including completion of Algebra, advanced Language Arts studies and Science.

Upper Elementary

Upper Elementary includes our 5th and 6th grade classes.  Each class has its own homeroom, where they begin and end each day.   All 5th graders take art, music, PE and computers, while 6th graders are given their choice of electives, which also includes foreign language, drama, worship team and yearbook, in addition to the standard offerings of music, art, PE and computers.  As mentioned above, both 5th and 6th graders rotate to different teachers for their academic subjects.

Mid-High

Mid-High is a combined class of 7th and 8th graders.  Mid-High has its own homeroom teacher, and recess and lunch periods separate from the lower grades. Mid-High students are given their choice of electives, which includes music, art, PE, computers, foreign language, drama, worship team and yearbook. As for Upper Elementary, our Mid-High students rotate to different teachers for their academic subjects.

Our curriculum includes:

  • ACSI Bible
  • ABEKA language art
  • Progeny Press Literature studies
  • ABEKA Social Studies
  • ACSI Science
