The following types of assistance are available:
School Tuition Organizations (STOs)
STO’s are funded by the Arizona Private School Tuition Tax Credit program and provide both need-based and merit-based assistance. Arizona tax payers may donate up to $2,173 (married, filing jointly) or $1,087 (individual) for the 2016 tax year only and receive a dollar-for-dollar credit toward their AZ state tax liability. Donors may direct their tax dollars to a specific school or recommend a specific student to receive the funds as a tuition credit. Parents/guardians, however, may not donate to their own children/dependents.
Corporate scholarships provide need-based tuition assistance for kindergarten students and students switching from a public or charter school to a private school. Applicants must qualify under federal income guidelines. Once accepted into the program, students receive preference for grant renewal the following year. Parents are encouraged to apply when their child enters kindergarten. Several STOs (IBE, TOPS and ASCT, SCAI) participate in the corporate scholarship program.
Additional scholarships are available through the generosity of our Christian Academy donors. Christian Academy of Prescott has several scholarships (CAPTAP) that are awarded for various reasons. If you would like your child to be considered for one of these scholarships, you must have applied for at least three STOs to qualify (see below). Applications are available in the school office.
More information on School Tuition Organizations (STOs)
How do I apply for a tuition grant/scholarship from an STO?
The application process and submission deadline vary by STO. Application forms are available in the Christian Academy office and on STO websites. The state of Arizona requires the applicant to submit certain financial information as part of the application process.
What factors are considered when awarding a tuition grant?
Each STO sets their own criteria. These may include, but are not limited to: financial need, merits of the student, scholastic ability, leadership, community involvement, other family needs (e.g., financial, health, employment) and donor recommendations.
How does the “donor recommendation” process work?
A donor may specify a particular school or student on the STO donation form. A donor may not make a recommendation on behalf of their own dependent. School tuition organizations cannot award, restrict or reserve scholarships solely on the basis of donor recommendation.
